How Technology Can Adversely Affect Your Health & Happiness

Below are a few ways you may not realize that technology can adversely affect you and your family:

  • 6 seconds is the average length of time your eyes are off the road when you are texting while driving. Try the android and iPhone app TrueMotionFamily to track phoneHow Technology Can Adversely Affect Your Health & Happiness use behind the wheel.  You might just be surprised by what you find out.
  • There is a 40-lb. push on your spine when your head is tilted 30° forward (while viewing devices for instance), compared to 10-12-lb when it is in a neutral position.
  • Avoiding tablets and computers (whose screens suppress melatonin production) 90 minutes prior to bed can improve sleep quality.
  • 1 in 6 teens have hearing loss from high-volume music or tv’s.
  • 23% of kids in middle school and high school have experienced cyber-bullying.
  • We generally blink only 5-6 times per minute when staring at a screen and this low rate of blinking can lead to dry eye disease.

Some technology is very valuable but yielding our lives to machines rather than social interaction can affect our health, happiness and driving ability…just to name a few.  Try “unplugging” more often and spending more time outdoors and with friends and family.

  5. Find a good way to manage your answer to the above. Acupuncture, healing touch, breathing exercises, yoga, and other calming activities or treatments can be a significant boost to your health.
  6. Complement conventional medicine rather than replacing it.
  7. Natural supplements can be very beneficial, but they are often far less regulated and tested compared to prescription medications. Most doctors today are very happy to support natural wellness, but it is important to consider that some supplements and medications can counteract each other or provide you with too much of a good thing.  If you are not sure how your supplements and medications interact, discuss this with your doctor BEFORE you add anything to your supplement regime.

Reviving An Old Friendship Can Make The World A Better Place!

Time and Real Friends are your two most important assets!  Once time is spent, we can never regain it.  But we can regain, or revive, friendships.  Sometimes we lose the “best” people in our lives due to busy schedules, distance or conflict.  A host ofReviving an old friendship can make your/their world a better place other reasons allow us to sacrifice those relationships most dear to us and focus our time on 1) “have to’s” or 2) people we think will benefit us.  This is not entirely a bad thing, business is business, but when we allow too much of our attention to wander to what pays us rather than what makes life worth living, then we pay for it.

Energy, self-esteem and happiness are just 3 of the profits of real friendships with really good people.  You see each other and your heart and head both speed up a beat.  You smile all over.  You expect the best of yourself, because they represent the best of your outside world.

If you have let an important friendship waste away in the wings, a sincere letter or call of apology and a genuine effort to restore things can open that door at least as wide as it once was.  Most people aren’t that perfect from their point of view either and will be willing to patch things up and move on as friends.  Give it a try…a revived, happy friendship may be just around the corner!

How To Protect Your Special Seniors From Dehydration

As people age, the body is less able to conserve water, AND the sense of thirst diminishes.  By the time a senior may feel thirsty, their essential fluids may be extremely low.

  • Little or no urination, dark or amber-colored urine
  • Dry skin that stays folded when pinched
  • Irritability, dizziness or confusion
  • Low blood pressure, rapid breathing or heartbeat

Habits Of Remarkably Likeable People

Who can make an entire room of people smile?  Someone who is charming in a genuine way.  What is charming?  One dictionary says “charming” is: delightful, pleasing, pleasant, agreeable, likeable, endearing, lovely, lovable, adorable, appealing, attractive, good-looking, and more.  Today “charming” has also come to mean “insincere and self-serving” which will not make you successful long-term.  (We think of men in chick-flicks who use their Tom Cruise to slay the female reservations.)

In general, the people we find “attractive” and likeable are the ones sporting a smile and a genuine interest in us.

Tips On Being More Likeable

  • Put aside posturing and physical positions of your own important. Step up to greet others and be the first to reach out.Habits of Remarkably Likeable People
  • Use the power of touch. Obviously social mores restrict where, how and for how long, but personal contact makes a connection.
  • Focus on the other person. Don’t immediately launch into your credentials and funniest story; let them be the center of the conversation.  You can always add value once someone is engaged with you.
  • Everyone is better than you at something…let them shine. You can show your expertise or excellence when the timing is appropriate.  You don’t need to disclose your darkest secret or biggest trophy all the time!
  • Don’t ask for anything. Simply enjoy talking with the other person and don’t have another purpose for the conversation.
  • Like yourself. Your self-esteem and confidence will show in your smile and the way you walk and carry yourself.

This Daily Decision Affects How Happy You Are!

The Critical Question / Decision

Is the world you live in hostile or friendly? How do you look at it? It’s up to you to decide.  Albert Einstein called this “the most important decision” we make in our lives.  Every singleChose to be happy each day day I make that decision. I wake up and ask myself: “Do I live in a good world or a bad world?”  Whether you view your world as good or bad impacts your attitude as you go through your day.

Plus, how you view your day right at its onset also affects how many good things will happen to you as the day progresses.  Susan Reynolds, co-author of Train Your Brain to Get Happy, says that “feeling pleasure can be so stimulating for your brain that it is primed to respond to pleasure in a way that reinforces that pleasure.”  Negative thinking has been linked with a reduced ability to think, be creative, and even respond to life in an emotionally healthy way.

How To Add More Positivity To Your Day

  • Choose words that reflect a positive attitude such as “I’m excited!” and “I will” instead of I’ll try
  • Focus on things that make you happy
  • Appreciate the good things in your life…practice gratitude
  • Spend time with positive people

When you wake up tomorrow, ask yourself if you live in a good or bad world.  Choose to live in a good world and your sun will shine bright.
